I'm weaving double weave with colours, the other workshop series I've signed up for.
Bright red and dark blue in the warp and another red and blue in the weft.
I'm playing with the design but also with the colours. Great fun!
I cannot get the colours "as is" in the photo but you can see the differences in blue that I've been playing with. The palest almost looks like white in the weaving. I did not like that so started playing with the colour blue.
Enough for tonight though, tomorrow is another day.
Tonight I received an email from my 6 year old grandson, his first. He had typed the text and his mum helped with the email part of it.
It was heart warming.

Next warp
I was winding the next warp out in the garden yesterday using my warping peddle. Who would have thought this would be possible in March! Today is a lot cooler and not warm enough to sit outside. I've enjoyed the sunny days we have had so far though.
It's a short 2 colour warp for double weave and I had the colours on more than 1 cone so was able to warp 4 threads at a time.
I improvised with vases keeping the cones separate. I had to untwist the threads a few times but very do-able.
Now the warp is on the loom and ready for threading. I'll use the dobby again to keep track of which shaft should be next as this too is not a straight threading, though I'm only using 4 shafts for this warp. This photo shows the warp on the back of the loom.

So far
Iridescent warp is woven and I had my 2nd workshop day yesterday.
This is the result of weaving the first warp. The first half I wove a longer pattern in one colour, using 5 colours in total but the 2nd half I slightly changed the treadling and wove a shorter pattern for each colour and for the same length I was able to use 8 colours. The yellow is the least distinctive but the lighter yellow is better than the darker yellow. Best liked are the blue & green colours if I had to make a choice.
My next warp is going to be for the double weave workshop. I will not make to long a warp for this.
The grandchildren were here for one night. This morning they were busy painting eggs.

Some weaving and more
Not much more weaving done since posting last photos, just this to show:
Yesterday I spent the day at the Textile Museum in Tilburg meeting up with an Online Guild member from Austria. We had a great day going over all to see and exchanging ideas.
The one thing I had not yet seen at the Museum is their library. It's a good collection and you are able to study in the library, not take out any books. I will definitely go back again. I've seen a few books I would like to have a closer look at.
Today I went to to weaving class. I've signed up for 2, the first one being Iridescent weaving and the second is Double Weaving with 4 or more colours. I think they complement one and other but I will have to get on with my weaving to get the full benefit of doing the classes.
I even have to postpone a trip to London.
But I'm glad I took the decision to do them both. Marian does not teach these subjects every year, it also depends on getting enough people together. Both groups have 7 students (I'm the only one doing both)
Good news today, DD getting the all clear after 8 months of chemo. Now the healing can start from having had this long period of chemo. And Spring is in the air, what more do we want.
Granddaughter staying with me this weekend. Looking forward to having some quality time together.

First Iridiscent Weaving
The first 10cm of weaving of this warp.
There are 4 warp colours and at the moment I'm using a yellow weft thread.
I'll be using different colours for the weft and will use the one I like best to weave a scarf. But the first part of the warp with the different weft colours should also make an interesting weaving.

#+#+
My last warp is woven up but the fringes not yet finished so nothing more to show than this photo.
The Iridescent workshop 2 weeks ago was very inspiring but it took me until today to get the warp made. I'm hoping to make progress to get the warp on the loom tonight.
I bought a warping paddle years ago but found it impossible to use. However, for this warp the 4 colour sequence is the same right through so it made sense to try the paddle again. And hé, it worked ok!
I lost count at one point so will find out when I dress the loom, if I have made a mistake.
Yesterday we had our first real Spring weather day. I spend some time working in the garden. It was a joy. Next week it will be a bit cooler again but I'm sure it won't be long before Spring is here to stay.
Tomorrow I plan to go to the last day of this exhibition of work by Sheila Hicks. Looking forward to go there.
